Historical context

BuxWV 171 is a composition for organ by Dietrich Buxtehude, one of his later works from around 1700. This piece, while specific details about its premiere and dedicatee are not well-documented, was published in 1875-76 as part of the earliest known editions of Buxtehude's music. As with much of Buxtehude’s output, it showcases his mastery of organ composition, likely featuring complex counterpoint and expressive tonalities characteristic of Baroque music.
