How to play
- Registration
- Lighter than BuxWV 149: Principal 8'+4' in manuals, no Mixture in the fugue; pedal 16'+8' without reed.
- Tempo
- More intimate — closer to chamber scale. Don't drive the fugue.
- Articulation
- Speaking, almost vocal articulation. Treat fugal entries as if they were sung by different singers.
- Ornamentation
- Restrained. Trill on the leading tone at the final cadence.
Historical context
The second of the two G-minor preludes, more concise and lyrical than BuxWV 149. A good piece for liturgical use where a major showpiece would be out of place.
